The New Generation – Artemis

In light of our new ‘Leftover’ collection, we’ve approached The New Generation to get their perspective on the environment, and what brings colour to their lives. For this edition, we talked to 13 year old Artemis van der Groen from Antwerp.

Describe yourself in three words.
Creative, spontaneous and crazy.

Tell us something about yourself and your hobby.
I love horses, and I love to draw and make stuff. When I was still in my mother’s belly, I already joined a ride on a pony, and from my first real ride on I didn’t stop anymore since I liked it so much. Here in Antwerp I didn’t find a riding school and I got bored since I couldn’t ride horses anymore. Until I once saw a video on YouTube about hobby horsing. At first I thought it was a bit strange, but soon I started to enjoy it. I like to run and jump and it becomes even more fun when you do it with a hobby horse.

What part does colour play in your life?
I really love the colour light blue. And purple, yellow, pink, green, red and orange, too. I’m happy I can see them. They make the world a lot less boring.

What would you make of leftover fabrics?
Nice hobby horses, and warm blankets for them. Oh, and I would fix the holes in my pants.

Is there anyone who inspires you to act more environment-friendly?
Our family has always been very mindful of the environment and we eat ecologically. My little sister is 7 years old and she’ll say it when I have to do better.

What will the world look like in 10 years from now?
Do you really want to know? Warm, dry and wet at the same time, high sea levels and many hurricanes, less animals and insects and no arctic and Antarctic regions left. Hopefully we can still change this.
